2. You need an internet device with a camera.
We recommend a computer or tablet with a webcam so you will feel like the instructor is in the room with you.
A larger screen will allow us to clearly show you techniques on the piano and help you with any challenging parts.
You can, however, start immediately with a smartphone. You do not need any fancy equipment!
3. You will need regular access to a piano.
To make real progress, you will need access to a piano for frequent practice.

What do I need to get started?
There are 2 basic things that you need for your first lesson: a device with a camera (I need to see you. You need to see me.) and a piano to practice. A device with a large screen is best, but any smart phone will work. Most pianos will work just find. If you need to purchase one, we can help with some things to look for or even some suggestions.

What ages do you teach?
I have taught students from age 3 to 80 and anywhere in-between. The youngest a student can be is dependent on the individual student. While some students may be ready quite young, most children will not enjoy lessons until they are a little older (usually around 6 or 7). If you are very interested in your child taking lessons early, feel free to contact us about our free evaluation lesson.
-
What specialties do you teach?
I encourage students to develop skills in note-reading, classical pedagogy, hymnplaying, theory, and proper technique. My goal is always to work toward the goals of the student. Many of my students have very specific goals, such as becoming a church pianist. Others have more simple goals, such as simply being able to play classical music for themselves and their family. I have also worked with students on more short-term goals such preparing for a competition or an evaluation. Talk to us about what your goals are, and we can help develop a plan to get there.

How do you keep students motivated?
We encourage all of our students to perform in some capacity at regular intervals. This gives students motivation to perfect certain pieces, and also allows students to gain the confidence that is so necessary to achieve mastery of an instrument. These performances may take place in church or may simply be done in front of family. Regardless of the setting, we find that the practice of continued performance greatly enhances a student's learning experience.
